Our Story
At first I, Kimana - owner, called my business Saraé Btrfy and we sold lipgloss. Eventually we got into sell other products like hats, purses and zodiac necklaces. But although these things were items I enjoyed, just not so much passionate about. So i started playing around with jewelry.
As a kid I’ve always loved fashion and jewelry. I was just really bad at keeping up with my jewelry on top of having sensitive skin and not being able to wear certain types. So I peeked my interested into beaded crystal bracelets. This then lead me to waist jewelry and I found it so fascinating on how its created and its benefits. Back in 2022 waist beads were trending for the girls going on vacation, wanting to lose and track their weight, etc. So me living in a small town i was able to make profit off of making beaded jewelry, while trying to sell left over inventory from my “Saraé Btfry” business.
I wanted my jewelry to be fashionable, durable, and long-lasting. To accomplished this I started looking for jewelry vendors and wholesalers. I changed my business name to Butterfly Aura and in the mean time I just got my supplies from Hobby Lobby because as a start up it was the cheapest. I soon realized that cheap isn't always the best quality and I ran into a few complications with jewelry breaking, etc. I eventually found supplies that were durable but still not long-lasting. Some of my beads would fade or lose color, and this made me feel like jewelry making wasn’t for me.
So I decided to get into metal, which is our now called Saraé Aura, jewelry line. I started testing out jewelry samples from vendors who had ready to ship items. Looking for necklaces so that I could drop my first collection, Good Fortune - 777 Luck’ys World. I felt like this would be a good leap in my jewelry selling business and attract more customer which it did. I made it a big thing by hosting a photoshoot and connecting with models. As well as reaching out to individuals who would possibly want to be an Ambassador for my business.
This shift brought a lot of exposer and opportunity. I started getting invited to events and my eyes opened to how far I could take my business. I discovered my values for networking and community building. As I embark on my entrepreneur journey I realized how difficult I can be to be seen or accepted for your passions. With the right crowd and connection I believe anyone can thrive in their own community. Which is what Butterfly Saraé Studio is all about.
